Flirting with Meaning
These paintings produce collisions of marks, shapes and colors. They portray a battle between form and pattern and the flat picture plane. They rely on shapes of urban structures, mountains, gestures and the elaborate message coiled inside a coif. They share the fact that flatness dominates in what the painter Tal R refers to as “ the cruelty of flatness.”
